  • World Book Week- w/b 28th February

    Published 17/02/22

On Thursday 3rd March 2022, it is World Book Day! We have planned lots of exciting activities in school to get everyone excited and engaged with reading. Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator for success in life and that’s why at Henbury, we want to foster a life-long love of reading embedded well beyond your child’s time with us.

We would like to invite your child to dress up as a favourite book character for the day, this is of course optional. We welcome all sorts of dress up ideas, please do not feel you need to go out and buy a brand-new costume, accessories to compliment a non-uniform outfit can be fun as well as a bit of face paint. If you are stick for ideas, you can find inspiration on the World Book Day website. World Book Day Dress Up Ideas

If you would like to, you may bring in the book that inspired your dress up idea to share in class with your friends. (This is not essential)

Drop it and read! Throughout the week, we will be dropping everything to read for 10 minutes each day when we hear a special bell. If you would like to take part at home, please do send us pictures of fun, silly, calm or strange places you have been reading. Sharing stories together for just ten minutes a day will encourage a love of reading and it’s fun for everyone! You can read together anywhere and everywhere, from breakfast to bedtime! If you choose to send in a photo by email to the office or your class teacher, you are giving consent for your picture to be displayed around school on displays.

If you would to share your picture with your class teacher, but do not want it on display, please do make this clear to your child’s teacher.

Competition time! During the school day, each child will also be entering a school competition to design a new front cover for their favourite book. We will announce a Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 winner on Friday 11th March. The winning children will receive a special prize given to them on this day.

Let’s fundraise! Please look out for your Read-a-thon poster and form coming out with this letter. We are raising money to purchase beautiful new books for our library and classrooms. We are currently in the process of revamping the library and we are excited to re-open it on World Book Day! Children will be visiting the library every week to choose and change a ‘Love to Read’ book to share at home with you.

    Let’s get reading!

    Kind regards,

    Laura Dawson
